How to organise your Midjourney prompts (and never lose a good one)

By Marco Cavazzana · Updated
Short answer
Save every prompt at the moment you make it, group prompts by project rather than by date, keep the parameters and style codes with the prompt, and make your library searchable. A browser extension like Dreamdrive does this automatically inside midjourney.com.

Why prompts get lost

Midjourney keeps a history of your jobs, but over hundreds of generations it becomes a long feed sorted by time. When a client comes back for "the same look as before", you end up scrolling, or rebuilding the prompt from memory and never quite matching it.

A system that works

  1. Save at creation, not later. If saving is a separate step, it won't happen on a busy day.
  2. Organise by project. One folder per client, campaign or series. Dates are a poor index for creative work.
  3. Keep the full prompt. Include every parameter and style code. The --ar, --s and --sref values are often what made it work.
  4. Name variations clearly. Man in a business suit, ... green suit, ... red suit reads better than v2_final_final.
  5. Make it searchable. A library you can't search is a library you won't use.
  6. Keep styles separate. Store reusable looks (style codes) in their own collection so they can be mixed with any subject.
